Hello ! My name is Arthur Desmarteaux and I’m a visual artist from Montréal, Canada. On this website you will be able to see some reproductions of the works I did in the past years. If you have any questions or suggestions, I invite you to write an e-mail to me and it’s going to be a pleasure to answer you. You can also leave messages in the guestbook. This site will soon be reconstructed under the current norms for an easier navigation on cellphones.
For those of you who are wondering why I use a pseudonym, I would answer that it is because I want to stay anonymus in front of my creations of good taste (which are frightening me sometimes) and also because it brings a mysterious aura around the artist and his work.
You can consider me as a pure neo-schtroumphist. For now I am the only member of that new art current that is the neo-schtrouphism, but you have to know that newcomers are always warmly welcomed in this current that is privileging the collective work. To know more about the processes that leads to my paintings, you can read my artist statement..
I will participate in an exhibition at Maison de la culture Frontenac (Montreal) from October 18th to November 19th. It is curated by Robert Poulin.
Fantastica Mexico is now presented at Circulaire Gallery in Montreal from September 7th to October 21st, 2017. This multimedia installation is evoking the contemporary landscapes of Mexico City. 5445 Avenue de Gaspé, Montréal
I will participate in a group show at Skol Gallery (downtown Montreal) in November and December 2018. More details to come.
You can now watch a music video I made last winter with Allison Moore. This video was made for the new band CherfunK featuring Québec signers and musicians Alexandre Désilets, Amylie, François Girard and Alexis Martin. The song is titled Trop tard pour ça (Too late for that).
I create a series of drawings and prints depicting "Visions of the Future, current apocalypses". This project was funded by a research and creation grant from the Québec Council of the Arts in 2014.
A third hand puppet show is currently in development : The Conquest of Sorrowland. The website of Egotrip Productions is under construction (for now it is a blog) : www.egotripproductions.org
